 1.  John Curtis Christian (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 1) Last Week:  Beat Edna Karr, 42-39.  The Patriots and Cougars got Week 1 started in a big way Thursday on the West Bank.  Led by quarterback Collin Guggenheim (Army commit) and running back Corey Wren (Georgia commit), Curtis ran for six touchdowns to stay just ahead of Karr, which benefited from quarterback Leonard Kelly’s 475 total yards.  Guggenheim reached the end zone on three short runs covering 1, 10, and 16 yards, while Wren rushed for TDs from 33 and 45 yards out, respectively.  Wren had another long sweep around the left side nullified by a penalty.  Although the Curtis secondary allowed 406 yards passing and five touchdowns, the unit probably won’t face another offense as explosive as Karr.  This Week:  vs. (Fulton County, GA) Westlake (2-0) at Shreveport 

2.  Edna Karr (0-1) LSWA Rank (Class 4A No. 2) Last Week:  Lost to John Curtis, 42-39.  Karr’s 27-game winning streak was snapped at home Thursday.  On the bright side, the Cougars were brilliant offensively with a 21-of-35 passing performance that netted 406 yards, according to Nathan Brown.  Four different Cougars hauled in scoring strikes from quarterback Leonard Kelly, with sophomore wide receiver Aaron Anderson catching the first two.  Kelly also dashed for a 37-yard TD in the second half.  This Week:  at McDonogh 35 (0-1)

3.  St. Thomas More (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 4A No. 1) Last Week:  Beat Holy Cross, 28-7.  After falling behind 7-0 in a game played at Tulane, the Cougars rallied for a convincing win over a tough 5A foe.  Harvard commit Caleb Holstein shook off a couple of early interceptions to throw for 258 yards and two touchdowns.  Junior wide receiver Jack Bech led STM with nine receptions for 89 yards and a TD, according to Hart Pisani.  Running backs Tobin Thevenot and Noah Frederick combined for 161 yards rushing on 21 carries.  This Week:  vs. Barbe (1-0)

 4.  Acadiana (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 7) Last Week:  Beat Carencro, 28-6.  Army commits Dillan Monette and Lucky Brooks combined for 243 yards and four touchdowns as the Wreckin’ Rams erased a 6-0 deficit to win on the road.  According to Kevin Foote, Monette rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns for Acadiana, which only attempted one pass.  This Week:  vs. Ruston (0-1)

5.  Catholic-BR (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 3) Last Week:  Beat Parkview Baptist, 62-7.  The Bears built a 55-point halftime lead en route to winning their fourth straight over Parkview, according to Robin Fambrough.  Catholic totaled 258 yards rushing, paced by Josh Parker (8-102, TD).  Quarterback Jackson Thomas connected on 9 of 14 passes for 132 yards and two scores and ran for another.  This Week:  vs. North Little Rock (Ark.) (1-1) at Shreveport

 6.  East Ascension (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 5) Last Week:  Beat Zachary, 40-31.  The Spartans knocked off the two-defending 5A state champs in a game that featured eight lead changes and 853 yards of total offense, according to Robin Fambrough.  Senior wide receiver Steven McBride caught five passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns for EA, which got effective play from two quarterbacks:  Cameron Jones and Hobart Grayson IV.  This Week:  at Haughton (1-0)

 7.  Archbishop Rummel (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 4) Last Week:  Beat Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic, 7-3.  The Raiders showed why they have the best secondary in the state, as Donovan Kaufman (Vanderbilt commit) recovered a fumble and Corey Smooth (Nicholls State commit) intercepted a pass.  This Week:  at Slidell (1-0)

 8.  Destrehan (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 8) Last Week:  Beat Bonnabel, 38-16.  The Wildcats show no signs of slowing down on offense after a prolific 2018 season.  According to Lori Lyons, Destrehan raced to a 38-0 lead as Alabama commit Kyle Edwards toted the football five times for 84 yards and a touchdown.  Razan Keller added 108 yards on 3 rushes with a 99-yard scoring jaunt.  This Week:  at Walker (1-0)

9.  East St. John (1-0) LSWA Rank (Not Ranked) Last Week:  Beat West Jefferson, 47-7.  The Wildcats could be the most underrated team of the year thus far.  Calvin Gardner ran for three first-half touchdowns in the opener, according to Leroy Triggs.  Ragin’ Cajuns commit Dontae Fleming caught a 30-yard TD pass from Sean Shelby, who was 8 of 11 for 198 yards.  Shelby also tacked on 39 yards rushing on 10 carries.  This Week:  at St. James (1-0)

10.  University Lab (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 3A No. 3) Last Week:  Beat John Ehret, 20-6.  The Cubs have won 27 straight, according to Lenny Vanglider.  Sophomore Derrick Graham ran for 226 yards on 31 carries with two touchdowns as the Cubs won on the West Bank despite breaking in 19 new starters.  QB Tanner Larson completed 17 of 31 passes for 169 yards.  This Week:  at Neville (1-0)

11.  Neville (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 4A No. 4) Last Week:  Beat Ruston, 21-20.  Playing in the school’s 1,000th game, the Tigers edged Ruston behind the strength of two defensive touchdowns, according to Adam Hunsucker.  With the Bearcats holding a 20-14 lead, linebacker Javon Carter forced a fumble that safety Andrew Cagle picked up and returned for a 36-yard touchdown.  Quarterback Andrew Brister was able to shake off four interceptions.  This Week:  vs. University Lab (1-0)

12.  West Monroe (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 2) Last Week:  Beat Ridgeway (Tenn.), 37-7.  Junior quarterback Lane Little filled in nicely for injured starter Garrett Kahmann, who is out with a shoulder injury.  According to Cory Diaz, Little rushed for two touchdowns in his first varsity start as the Rebels roared to a 35-0 halftime lead.  A.J. Fenceroy, a Bastrop transfer, returned a punt 78 yards for another score.  This Week:  at Byrd (0-1) 

13.  Zachary (0-1) LSWA Rank (Class 5A No. 6) Last Week:  Lost to East Ascension, 40-31.  Quarterback Keilon Brown ran for a game-high 210 yards on 18 carries in the loss, according to Robin Fambrough.  The Memphis commit rushed for three scores and completed 9 of 17 passes for 119 yards.  RJ Allen added 111 yards on 20 carries.  This Week:  vs. Deerfield Beach (Fl.) (0-2) in Shreveport 

14.  Evangel Christian (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 4A No. 5) Last Week:  Beat Magnolia School of Excellence, 63-0.  Although it’s difficult to get a good read on the Eagles after they walloped an overmatched opponent in Week 1, quarterback Blake Shapen and company defeated a solid John Ehret squad 20-7 in the jamboree.  According to Jimmy Watson, the ECA defense will be spearheaded by 6-3, 210-pound middle linebacker Jax Miller.  This Week:  at Bastrop (1-0)

15.  Lakeshore (1-0) LSWA Rank (Class 4A No. 3) Last Week:  Beat Fontainebleau, 48-41.  Quarterback Christian Wescott had a hand in six touchdowns, rushing for four and tossing two more, according to Jason Russell.  He threw for 324 yards on 15-of-26 passing with two interceptions.  Spencer Jordan hauled in a 97-yard TD pass from Wescott and finished with five catches for 153 yards.  This Week:  vs. South Plaquemines (0-1)
