Westgate 2019 outside linebacker Keith Lopez received a scholarship offer from Jackson State in late September, and he recently took a trip to Mississippi to check things out.
“It was an unofficial visit,” Lopez said. “I went with my mom, dad and my little sister. My coach at Westgate (Ryan Antoine) told me they wanted me to come visit their campus for homecoming.
“I talked to their head coach for a little while. The defensive coordinator wants to meet me, but he wasn’t there at the time. He had left right after the game, so I talked to the head coach and the running backs coach.”
It’s possible that Lopez will make a decision soon.
“I was thinking about committing after I talked to the defensive coordinator,” he said. “They told me that he will get in contact with me.
“There weren’t many recruits in the locker room. It was mainly little brothers of the players and stuff. I was pretty much the only one.”
Lopez came back with a positive opinion of the JSU home atmosphere.
“I like their team,” he said. “They won their game. They played Mississippi Valley State.
“It was a good experience because there were a lot of people just having fun. I went and sat on the family side and saw a lot of families there.”
Lopez might return soon.
“Their coaches told me I can come to any game I want,” he said. “They said to just let them know and they’ll let me in.
“I listened to one of their coach’s interviews, and he said they’re very underclassmen oriented. They’re a young team. I think I would fit in perfect over there.”
