Athletic recruiting is a comprehensive process that involves school support, parental guidance and bit of drive and determination. Everyone must do their part to be successful. As an athlete, you have the most important job of all and that means, doing your part to get recruited. We have a few tips to ensure you are keeping your end of the bargain.
1. PLAY MANY SPORTS
Coaches prefer athletes that play several sports because it shows the diversity of skill sets developed. Multi-sport athletes prove that they can be coached by different coaching styles as a true team player. Playing different sports increases your athletic IQ and pleases college coaches.
2. PARTICIPATE IN MANY ACTIVITIES
Coaches need athletes that are well rounded and participate in activities outside of sports. Teams need athletes that can bring a wealth of experience to their group. Being a member of different clubs and organizations will shine a light on your application.
3. TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY
Enough said. To be a prime athlete at any level, it is imperative that you take care of your body. Your doctor can give you a tailored nutrition plan. Trainers and coaches can provide healthy strength and conditioning plans. You must listen to your body. And it goes without saying, drugs and alcohol are completely off limits. NO EXCUSES.
4. GET INVOLVED IN A STRENGTH, SPEED AND CONDITIONING PROGRAM
High school athletes need to work on building strength. What you do in the weight room combined with what you do on the field or court will only increase your athlete status. Strength and skill also help athletes reach their maximum potential. When choosing a program, you want to choose a well-rounded, comprehensive strength, speed, and conditioning program.
5. PLAY LIKE SOMEONE IS WATCHING
No matter what numbers are on the score board or the stats of the opposing team, you always want to play your best game. You never know what scout, scouting assistant or even head coach is watching your performance. There are eyes everywhere-on and off the field. It’s up to you to always play like someone is watching because you just never know who may actually be watching.
